Warner Bros. Cancels Wonder Woman Game, Shuts Three Studios

Warner Bros. is pulling the plug on its long-in-development Wonder Woman game and closing three internal studios as it reshapes its video game division. The project, first announced in 2021, was being developed by Monolith Productions, the acclaimed team behind Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.

### Wonder Woman Is No Longer Moving Forward
The Wonder Woman game was positioned as a major DC single-player release, with Monolith expected to build on its signature Nemesis-style systems and open-world action design. Despite strong expectations from fans—especially after the studio’s work on the Middle-earth games—Warner Bros. has now decided not to continue development.

### Three WB Studios Close
Alongside the cancellation, Warner Bros. is shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. It’s a significant contraction for a publisher that has spent the last few years trying to turn its big entertainment brands into consistent game hits.

Player First Games was best known for MultiVersus, Warner’s platform fighter built around a crossover roster spanning DC, Looney Tunes, and other properties. WB Games San Diego, meanwhile, had been linked to mobile and free-to-play initiatives, reflecting an earlier strategy to expand beyond traditional premium releases.

### What This Means for WB’s Future Lineup
The decision suggests WB Games is narrowing its focus after a turbulent period of launches, live-service experiments, and shifting corporate priorities. DC remains one of the company’s most valuable brands, but the loss of a big-budget Wonder Woman title—and the closure of the studio best equipped to deliver it—raises questions about how Warner Bros. plans to handle future superhero games outside of proven pillars.

From a market perspective, it’s another reminder that even recognizable IP and experienced teams don’t guarantee a project will make it to release. For players, it’s a disappointing end to what could have been DC’s next major solo adventure—and a worrying signal about how risk-averse big publishers have become with expensive AAA development.
